The City Clerk's Office is responsible for:
- Preparing all City Council Agendas and packet material.
- Maintaining all City records, proceedings and ordinances.
- Provides information pertaining to City Council proceedings to general public and other City Departments.
- Issuing cereal malt beverage, drinking establishment and liquor store licenses.

The City was incorporated as a First Class City on December 31, 1998. The current population of the City of Leawood is 34,579. The City of Leawood operates under a Mayor-Council form of government. The City is served by a Mayor and eight  Councilmembers, which makes up the 'Governing Body.' The City is divided into four  Council wards. There are two  Councilmembers in each ward who serve staggered terms. Elected Officials, including the Mayor, serve for four  year terms.
