Natural Reflections A Plein Air Event in Leawood Parks

The Leawood Arts Council, in Cooperation with the Leawood Parks and Recreation Department, will hold the Second Annual Plein Air Art Event. Like most Plein Air events, painters will be invited to participate in a weekend of creating art throughout the Leawood Park system to compete for cash prizes. Additionally, Natural Reflections will feature a photography category.

Natural Reflections will be held from Saturday, October 7 through Saturday, October 14, 2017. Registration for the event week, or individual Quick Challenges, can be done in advance at www.leawoodstageco.org or at the information tent onsite Saturday, October 7th from 8:00 am - Noon, one hour prior to each Quick Challenge, or at the Parks and Rec Desk (8:00 am - 5:00 pm Monday through Friday) located on the lower level of Leawood City Hall . All artists must register and pay a registration fee to participate.

The General Publicis encouraged to watch the artists create artworks throughout the week while enjoying Leawood parks. Art will be available to purchase during Natural Reflections week by arrangement with the staff members at the Information tents or by calling 913-663-9157.

All exhibited art will be on sale during the exhibition and reception November 5th - 18th at Better Homes and Gardens Kansas City Homes Real Estate offices in Mission Farms. Art may be purchased from the Gallery page of this Natural Reflections website.

Natural Reflections proceeds will go to the Leawood Foundation and to the Leawood Stage Company.

Proceeds and a Portion of Art Purchases benefit The Leawood Foundation projects or the Leawood Stage Company "Performing Arts Fund". The Leawood Stage Company and the Leawood Foundation are both 501c3 Not-for-Profit Organizations.

Artists will compete for prizes by category:

  • All pieces submitted to the exhibition will be juried
  • All pieces are eligible for prize money and ribbons
  • All artists receive the chance to exhibit and sell their pieces.

Artists may work from 6:00 am to 11:00 pm daily Saturday, October 7th to Saturday, October 14th throughout the Leawood Park system. See the map on the Maps page of this Natural Reflections website.

Saturday, October 7

  • 8:00 am Registration at the Information Shelter
    • Support stamping begins and continues to Noon (Location A) in I-Lan Park
  • 9:30am - Noon Morning Quick Challenge
    • Check in at the Information Shelter (Location A) in I-Lan Park
    • Work in I-Lan Park or Gezer Park
  • Noon Morning Quick Challenge Ends
    • Submissions Due at the Information Shelter (Location A)
    • Quick Challenge Judging & Awards Presentation on site

Sunday, October 8

  • 8:00 am - Noon Check in at the Information Shelter
    • Support stamping begins and continues to Noon Tomahawk Park (Location B)
  • 4:00 - 7:00 pm Evening Quick Challenge
    • Check in at the Lions' Shelter at Leawood City Park (Location C)
    • Work in Leawood City Park or along the Tomahawk Creek Greenway
  • 7:00 pm Evening Quick Challenge Ends
    • Submissions Due at the Lions' Shelter (Location C)
    • Quick Challenge Judging & Awards Presentation
  • 7:00 pm Happy Hour
    • Enjoy refreshments while viewing the art, judging and awards presentation.
    • The public is encouraged to attend.
