Natural Reflections - How to Participate


  • All art must be created entirely outdoors in the Leawood Park System between 6:00 am, October 7 and 11:00 pm, October 14. Park hours will apply to all working artists [6:00 am - 11:00 pm]
  • All artists must register, sign-in, and sign a liability waiver prior to painting or photographing.
  • Artists working throughout the event week only need to register one time.
  • All artists must wear official nametags as provided while participating.
  • Registration fee entitles the artist to an unlimited number of stamped supports.
  • Only stamped supports (canvas, paper etc.) will be considered official for competition.
  • Photographers must show date stamp of photo image on the backside of framed artwork.
  • No toxic waste (such as turpentine) maybe disposed of in the parks. All artists are expected to clean up their areas at the end of the day or challenge period.
  • Artists may not block trails or access points to the trails and should be aware of potential high use of trails and parks during working periods.
  • Participation Fee for the entire event is $25.00 and includes three Quick Challenges.
  • Participation in one or each Individual Quick Challenge is $10.00.


  • For restrooms and parking, check the maps page for the nearest locations.
  • Pack everything that you will need while working - water bottles, umbrellas, hats, sunscreen, snacks, lunch etc.
  • We suggest that you have someone watch your work area when you are taking breaks. We are not responsible for items left unattended.


  • Quick Challenge*

    There will be Three, 3 hour Quick Challenges throughout the week.
    Award Sponsors will select the winning piece for each challenge.

    • First Place (3 awards- one for each challenge).
      Winners must agree to exchange their winning piece for a $500 cash prize.

Quick Challenge Participants

Natural Reflections Quick Challenge is a timed competition in a specified location.
There will be Three, 3 hour Quick Challenges

  • October 7 - 9:00 - Noon - Within I-Lan or Gezer Parks
  • October 8 - 4:00 - 7:00 pm - Within Leawood City Park
  • October 14 - 1:00 - 3:00 pm - Within Ironwoods Park
  • Artists may select, and set up their work area prior to the Quick Challenge start time.
  • Art must be created entirely and wholly on site in Leawood Parks during the challenge period. Paints may be premixed and canvases may be prepared.
  • Artists must deliver their paintings ready to hang in frames, with hanging wire.
  • Winning artists must agree to submit their piece for judging and sale in exchange for the $500.00 Sponsor Award.
  • Participating artists must submit their paintings for immediate judging at the ending time indicated.

Exhibition Submissions

  • All art submitted must be created entirely outdoors in the Leawood Park System between October 7 and October 14.
  • Artist may submit up to three (3) works of art for judging. Each piece must have a submission form completed.
  • All works must be stamped with the stamp visible.
  • All submitted artwork must be for sale. The sales commission to the Leawood Foundation is 30%.
  • Because Natural Reflections is a fundraiser for the Leawood Foundation and the Leawood Stage Company, artists are encouraged to price their pieces to sell.
  • All works to be exhibited must be delivered on November 4th between the hours of 10:00 am and 2:00 pm. Artists must sign in the works of art and sign out at the conclusion of the exhibition.
  • All works must be delivered ready to hang. Artists should consider the quality of framing. All pieces must visibly show the stamp. If a backing is necessary please cut a small window to show the stamp.
  • All art must remain in the exhibition until the end of the exhibition period. Pieces that have been sold will also remain and the new owner will pick up art at the same determined time as the other artists.
  • Artists must pick up their works (if not sold) at the end of the exhibition period, on November 18th between the hours of 1:00 and 7:00 pm.
