Right to an Attorney
A defendant has the right to representation
by an attorney in all municipal court cases. When a defendant is charged with
an offense that may result in jail time and requests an attorney, the City's
public defender will be appointed to represent the defendant at no cost, if
the Judge finds that he/she does not have the financial means to hire one. If
you choose not to be represented by an attorney, you may represent yourself.
Appearing as your own attorney is called pro se.
