What is CERT?
This Nationally Certified Course teaches citizens to perform essential life-saving functions while awaiting the arrival of professional emergency responders following a disaster.
CERT is about readiness, people helping people, rescuer safety, and doing the greatest good for the greatest number. CERT is a positive and realistic approach to emergency and disaster situations where citizens will be initially on their own and their actions can make a difference. Through training, citizens can manage utilities and put out small fires; provide basic medical aid; search for and rescue victims safely; and organize themselves and spontaneous volunteers to be effective.
The Finale
The finale for the course will be a written exam and practical exercise that will test the skills acquired during the training program. Upon completion of all units of the CERT Program, certificates will be issued by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
