Battalion Chief Steve Duncan's picture

Battalion Chief Steve Duncan currently serves as the Shift Commander on 'B' shift. Steve started his career with the department in 1989. Prior to his employment with Leawood, Battalion Chief Duncan earned a Bachelors of Science in Fire Science from Central Missouri State University in December of 1987. As a member of the U.S. Army Reserves, Steve was activated for Desert Storm in 1990 and served in the 148th Field Hospital in Saudi Arabia as an Operating Room Specialist. In 2001 he earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Missouri- Kansas City and currently has a private law practice. Steve is also a 2008 graduate of the Executive Fire Officer Program at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Maryland. In 2010, Battalion Chief Duncan earned the designation of 'Chief Fire Officer' (CFO) from the Commission on Professional Credentialing. In 2011 he also earned his international credentials and the MIFireE designation from the Institute of Fire Engineers.

Since January 2007, Chief Duncan has completed two full marathons and nine half marathons as a member of "Team in Training", which raises funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
