Insurance

The City of Leawood offers a choice of Comprehensive health care plan options to choose from (the majority of all monthly cost is paid for, depending upon which plan you choose), paid dental, life, and long term disability insurance, and an employee assistance program.

Educational Assistance

The City of Leawood encourages all employees to take advantage of educational and vocational opportunities which may improve their performance in their current position or help them prepare for future promotions. Employees may qualify for partial reimbursement of tuition for approved classes.

Retirement

The City offers two State administered retirement programs. City employees are enrolled in the Kansas Public Employee's Retirement System after one year of service with the exception of certified Police and Fire personnel who are enrolled in the Kansas Police & Fire Retirement System upon hire. Both the City and employees contribute to these plans. In addition to these programs, the City offers a voluntary deferred compensation program where employees may save a portion of their compensation for purposes of retirement. Taxes on the amount that is saved in this program are deferred until the money is used.

Leave

The City offers a very generous paid leave program which includes a minimum of 10 days vacation (the number of days increases with longevity), the accumulation of one day disability leave per month (an employee may accumulate up to 90 days), 2 personal days each year and 8 days leave for holidays. In addition, there is unpaid family medical leave (after accumulated paid leave is used), civic, funeral and administrative leave available.

Tax Savings

The City offers the opportunity for employees to save taxes on the cost of their personal medical expenses and dependant care expenses as well as, the cost of any insurance premiums that are paid for City sponsored policies.

It is the policy of the City of Leawood not to hire any persons, including seasonal workers, who are members of the immediate family of other City employees, members of the Governing Body and members of other City boards and commissions. Immediate family, for the purposes of this policy, is defined as spouse, children, parents, brothers, sisters, grandparents, grandchildren, in-laws, adopted relatives, stepchildren, stepparents and first generation aunts, uncles, nieces, or nephews.
