NRPA and America's Backyard is working with PBS KIDS and PBS stations across the country to promote PBS KIDS Day in the Park in April 2012. The program encourages children and their families to get outdoors and spend more time at their local park.

Connecting children with nature is important to their mental, physical and emotional development. Children who spend time outdoors do better in science, get more physical exercise and grow-up to be environmental stewards. Research led by environmental psychologist Nancy Wells shows that children with more exposure to nature have reduced stress levels and longer attention spans.
