LEAWOOD BICYCLE FRIENDLY COMMITTEE AND THE LEAWOOD ARTS COUNCIL HOST SPOKE ‘N ART TOUR

The Leawood Bicycle Friendly Committee, in conjunction with the Leawood Arts Council, will present the Second Annual Tour de Art on June 2. Participants will ride approximately 16 miles through Leawood stopping along the way to learn about select pieces of the Leawood Public Art collection. A shorter 9 mile route will also be available.

This event will begin at the Lion’s Shelter in Leawood City Park on at 8:00 am. Riders will wind their way through Leawood on residential and commuter streets, as well as multi-use paths. Along the way there will be eight stops to learn about the sculptures and artists from volunteer members of the Leawood Arts Council.

While the pace will move at a beginner’s level of 8 to 10 miles per hour, confident bicycle control skills and comfort level of riding with vehicular traffic is recommended. Riders must be at least 10 years old to participate.

Restroom, water and snack stops will also be part of the route. Sculpture stops will include: “Lllooppi”, “Spooked”, “Introspection”, “Growing”, “Cloud Gate”, “The Sentinel”, “Guardian”, “The Bull”, “X”, “Porch Lights”, “Faith”, “For the Goal” and “Run Red Run”. Not only will riders get an insight into the works of art and the Leawood Public Art Program, but also they will have an opportunity to ask questions of Arts Council representatives who have an intimate knowledge of the pieces and the artist that created them.

At the conclusion of the ride, participants will enjoy a freshly grilled lunch at the Lion’s Shelter in Leawood City Park.

Registration is required. Based on the success of last year’s Spoke ‘n Art tour, it is suggested that reservations be made without delay, as space is limited to 100 riders. Registration deadline is May 28th. To register for the most interesting day you can have on 2 wheels, phone 913.339.6700 x154 or register online at www.leawood.org, Activity Code 201380-1.
