Concerts are free and will begin at 6:00 pm. The concert on August 26th will feature Hard @ Play. This group is relatively new on the Kansas City music scene. Their jazz influenced classic rock features a strong horn section. The nine member group includes vocalists Kent and Jeff Swearingen and Troy Burns who is also the keyboardist, drummer Tim Higgins, jazz guitar player Ron Carlson, and bassist Joe Nickell. The horn section rounds out the sound with Ted William on trumpet, Ken Westphal on trombone and Jack Bates on Sax. Hard @ Play takes us back to cool days in the 70s when Chicago, Blood Sweat & Tears, Santana and Steely Dan dominated the airwaves. This evening of “feel good music” is sure to be popular for those of us with fond memories of days past. Hard @ Play’s jazz influenced music runs from the late 60s through the 70s to more current tunes. Bring your friends and entire family for a relaxing evening in the park. In the event of rain the concert will move into the Lodge in Ironwoods Park. The Jazz Series continues on September 2nd with the David Basse Orchestra. Please join the Leawood Arts Council for our 7th annual free Sundays in the Park Jazz Concert Series at the Ironwoods Park Amphitheater. Some seating is available however, we recommend bringing a blanket and/or lawn chairs. Some refreshments will be available. Picnics are welcomed but alcohol is not allowed within the park. For more information please call the Leawood Cultural Arts Coordinator at (913) 339-6700 ext. 157. |
