Leawood Stage Company to Perform “Annie”

The Leawood Parks and Recreation Department, in cooperation with the Leawood Stage Company, presents the family classic Broadway Annie. Join us July 13, 14, 15, 16 & 20, 21, 22 at 8:00 p.m. at the Ironwoods Amphitheater in Ironwoods Park, 147th and Mission Road.

The beloved classic, Annie is based on the popular comic strip created by Harold Gray. Annie has become a worldwide phenomenon and winner of seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Little orphan Annie charms everyone's hearts despite her bleak start in 1930s New York City. Annie’s infectious optimism has everyone looking forward to a bright tomorrow.

Annie is determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of the orphanage run by the bitter Miss Hannigan. She finds a new home with billionaire, Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary, Grace Farrell, and a lovable mutt named Sandy.

Leawood Stage Company is thrilled to welcome back Chris McCoy as Director and Choreographer. Chris has directed three successful and popular summer musicals for LSC: The Music Man in 2007 and Guys & Dolls in 2010 and Hello Dolly in 2014. McCoy is Asst. Professor of Theatre at William Jewell College and serves as the Artistic Director of LSC. His directorial style is dedicated to presenting classic American musicals with modern sensibilities.

Leawood Stage Company presents the highest quality free theater in the area. We offer summer performances free to the public, serving senior citizens on a limited budget or families that might otherwise not be able to afford live theater performances. This is a great way to introduce young audiences to the arts.

On July 15thand 22nd the Historic Oxford Schoolhouse will offer pre-show activities for kids from 6:30 to 7:45 pm.

Annie, will have a large cast of children and adults, and promises to be an enjoyable free night of theatre under the stars. Bring the entire family to beautiful Ironwoods Park. Some seating is available at the amphitheater, however we recommend bringing a blanket and/or lawn chairs. Picnics are welcome but alcohol is not allowed in the park. Dogs must be leashed and we request that they not disturb the audience members around them. Check www.leawoodstageco.org for rain cancellations or the Parks & Recreation Rainout line at 913-982-2433.

For more information, please call the Cultural Arts Coordinator at (913) 663-9157, prior to the day of the show, or visit www.leawoodstageco.org or www.leawood.org.
