Half Day Camps

All Half-Day Camps meet at various locations within City Park (10601 Lee Blvd.)
8:30am-12:00pm, Monday - Friday

Balloon Tree Camp - Ages 5-8 years

Since 1977, Balloon Tree Camp is the perfect camp for children going into Kindergarten - 2nd grade. A daily regimen of swim lessons (taught by the Leawood Aquatic Center Staff) and activity stations including, cooperative games, arts and crafts, creative sing-along songs, nature exploration and recreational play. Weekly educational visits from the Leawood Fire and Police Departments are included. One - 2 week camp, three sessions to choose from. Camp meets daily at the Lion's Shelter.

 

Creative Creations Camp - Ages 8-11 years

Love to get creative? This outdoor camp is for children entering the 3rd - 6th grade who want to explore the world of art in a fun and exciting way. Young artists work with paints, chalk, paper and clay (and that’s just the beginning), and go on a field trip to an "artistic location" each session. Daily swim instruction is included with this camp. One - 2 week camp, three sessions to choose from. Camp meets daily at the Leawood Aquatic Center Concessions Deck.

 

Super Sports Camp - Ages 8-11 years

Can't get enough of sports? This camp is for the sports fanatic. Children in the 3rd-6th grade will spend two weeks learning and participating in recreational sports and games. Daily instruction and playing of different sports include basketball, volleyball, tennis, baseball,  soccer, and more! Daily swim instruction is included with this camp. One Friday field trip will take campers to a local sporting venue. One - 2 week camp, three sessions to choose from. Camp will meet daily at the basketball courts located on the east side of City Park.

 

 

Outdoor & Challenge Camps

Outdoor Camp - Ages 9-12 years

Leawood's Outdoor Camp is a full day for campers ages 9-12. This camp is for kids seeking a unique full-day adventure in an outdoor setting. The campers will start off in the Maple Room of Leawood City Hall, spend the day outdoors in Leawood's parks and return to the Maple Room for parent pickup. Campers will enjoy activities such as hiking, canoeing, basketball, soccer, arts and crafts, and daily trips to the pool for "free swim". Participants should bring a towel, sunscreen, water bottle and lunch each day. One weekly field trip will take campers to fun and exciting locations. Possible trips include: Worlds of Fun, Oceans of Fun, Powerplay, Schliterbhaun, Skyzone, Adventure Zip KC, and the Ironwoods Challenge Course. Five - 7 hour sessions.

Challenge Adventure Camp - Ages 7-12 years

Are your kids looking for some new challenges? Then Ironwoods Challenge Course's Challenge Adventure Camp should be your choice this summer! Experience the Carolina T-Wall, Alpine Tower, Giant Swing, and for the 12-14 year olds, the world's only Caribbean Course. We offer a balance of climbing activities (knots, belaying, commands, and technique), teambuilding challenges, survival skills, some new fun games to play with friends, some brain teasers, and above all just plain fun! For returning campers ages 12-14 more advanced climbing techniques will be introduced. BACK THIS YEAR! A 7 & 8 year old camp, focused less on climbing and more on fun outdoor activities. Five - 4 hour classes.

Nature Camps

All Nature Camps will be held at the Prairie Oak Nature Center
located in Ironwoods Park, 14701 Mission Road.

Discoverers Half-Day Camp - Ages 6-8 years

This camp is intended for younger campers. Discoverers will be trekking through all of the habitats and environments at Ironwoods Park including the creek, pond, prairie and woods. Naturalists will see firsthand the animals, rocks, trees and bugs that live in Kansas. We will investigate weather, water and ecology. We realize that younger naturalists' tolerance to the warmer weather and physical conditions is low. We will use the mornings to investigate, collect and make discoveries. We will move indoors after break to discuss our finds, perform lab work and create nature oriented crafts. Special guests will include real scientists that work in the field. Your child will truly benefit from this camp in science, team play and seeing nature close up. Five - 3 hour classes.

Explorers Full-Day Camp - Ages 8-12 years

This camp is intended for children and young adults who could benefit from learning more hands on, advanced scientific exploration. This is a full day camp. Young naturalists who attend this camp will be better prepared for Kansas' next generation science standards. We will explore many areas of science such as geology, water cycle, anthropology, natural diversity and animal biology. Campers will use the scientific method to ask questions, observe and test their hypothesis. We will conduct citizen science, where we collect data and email our results to universities, zoos and research stations. Guest speakers will be scientists, researchers and explorers. All participants will need to bring a sack lunch. Five - 6 hour classes.

Science Fair Camp - Ages 8-12 years

Children will choose a subject that interests them. With guided study, research, and lab tests, the naturalist will follow each of the steps of the scientific method to reach a conclusion. They may want to photograph microscopic organisms, count crawdads in the creek or shake a tree to see what kind of bugs fall out. Don't worry if your young naturalist does not come up with an idea. The week will conclude on Friday night with a Biology Fair, where the children will present their projects to family members. Five - 6 hour classes.

Tennis Camp

Ages 8-12 years

This week long camp for your beginner to advanced player who wants to improve their tennis game through fun activities, drills and extending time on the courts.  All campers need to bring a water bottle and sunscreen.

Challenger Soccer Camp

Ages 3-16 years

British Soccer Camps provide players of all ages and abilities the rare opportunity to receive high-level soccer coaching from a team of international experts. Each day includes individual foot skills, technical drills, tactical practices, small-sided games, coached scrimmages and a daily tournament. Equally important, the Challenger coaching staff provides your child with lessons in respect, responsibility, integrity, sportsmanship and leadership. Each camper will receive a free camp t-shirt, soccer ball, player evaluation and end of camp gift.  Please bring a water bottle, shin guards and sunscreen to camp each day.

Pre-Engineering using LEGO®! - Ages 5-6 years

Let your imagination run wild with tens of thousands of LEGO®! Build engineer designed projects such as boats, bridges, mazes and motorized cars, and use special pieces to create your own unique design! Explore the endless creative possibilities of the LEGO® building system with the guidance of an experienced Play-Well instructor. This is an ideal way to prepare young builders for the challenge of Engineering FUNdamentals. Five - 3 hour classes.

Power up your engineering skills with Play-Well TEKnologies and tens of thousands of LEGO®! Apply real-world concepts in physics, engineering, and architecture through engineer-designed projects such as arch bridges, skyscrapers, motorized cars, and the Battletrack! Design and build as never before, and explore your craziest ideas in a supportive environment. An experienced instructor will challenge new and returning students to engineer at the next level. Five - 3 hour sessions.

Build and learn about steamrollers, bulldozers, wrecking balls, tower cranes, and more while playing with your favorite building system: LEGO®! Five - 3 hour classes.

Engineering Challenge Using LEGO®! - Ages 7-12 years

Create a massive machine in the style of a Rube-Goldberg invention. Learn how to build a variety of motorized devices such as an air compressor, scissor lift invention, and a marble moving crankshaft in this advanced engineering camp. Then, collaborate in small groups with other engineers to accomplish large-scale missions! Creativity and collaboration are the name of the game in this camp designed for the hard core LEGO® enthusiast. Five - 3 hour classes.
