Lego® Camps

All classes will be taught by Play-Well TEKnologies instructors and
will be held at the Leawood Community Center (lower level of Leawood City Hall)

 

Intro to STEM with LEGO®

Ages 5-7 years

Tap into your imagination with tens of thousands of LEGO®.  Build engineer-designed projects such as Boats, Snowmobiles, Catapults and Merry-Go-Rounds.  Then use special pieces to create your own unique design!  New and returning students can explore the endless creative possibilities of the LEGO® building system with the guidance of an experienced Play-Well instructor.  There is no prerequisite for this course.  Five - 3 hour classes

STEM Challenge with LEGO®

Ages 7-12 years

Power on your engineering skills with Play-Well TEKnologies and tens of thousands of LEGO®!  Apply real world concepts in physics, engineering and architecture through engineer-designed projects such as Catapults, Pneumatic Cranes, Arch Bridges and Battle tracks!  Design and build as never before, and explore your craziest ideas in a supportive environment.  An experienced instructor will challenge new and returning students to engineer at the next level.  There is no prerequisite for this course.  Five - 3 hour classes

Jedi Engineering with LEGO®

Ages 5-7 years

The Force Awakens in this introductory engineering course for young Jedi!  Explore engineering principles by designing and building projects using LEGO® materials such as X-Wings, R2 Units, Energy Catapults, Defense Turrets and Settlements from a galaxy far, far away.  Create motorized and architectural projects with imagination and engineering to defeat the Empire!  Four - 3 hour classes

Jedi Master Engineering with LEGO®

Ages 5-7 years

The Force Awakens in this advanced engineering course for young Jedi!  Discover key engineering concepts such as gear trains, worm drives, pneumatics and eccentric motion.  Build projects from LEGO® materials such as X-Wings, AT-AT walkers, Pod Racers, Star Destroyers, Cloud Cities, Settlements, Fortresses and other complex machines and structures from a galaxy far, far away.  Four - 3 hour classes

Age 6 -12 years

Learn what makes up a cell like the sense of taste that you inherited.  Discover what burps are made of with dry ice.  Please bring a sack lunch.  One - 7 hour class

Fizzy Gassy Reactions

Crazy Chemistry

Age 6 -12 years

In this one camp, we will investigate chemical reactions happening all around us every day - in the kitchen, the laundry, the garden and even the walls! Young scientists will build crystals, make sidewalk chalk, create bath fizzers and a chromatograph T-shirt. They will investigate water absorbing chemicals and use chemical reactions to make their own ice cream.  Please bring a sack lunch.  One - 7 hour class

Edison's Workbench

Age 6 -12 years

Team up with your fellow camp inventors to explore the inventions of others - kids, women, Rube Goldberg, Thomas Edison and more! Draw inspiration from the wacky and practical.  The goal of this full one-day camp is to understand that we have no limitations.  Our dreams will inspire invention!  Please bring a sack lunch.  One - 7 hour class

Half-Day Camps at City Park

Camps meet Monday-Friday, 8:30am-12:00pm

Balloon Tree Camp

Age 5-8 years

This camp is for children going into Kindergarten-2nd grade and involves a daily regimen of swim lessons (taught by the Leawood Aquatic Center Staff) and activity stations including; cooperative games, arts and crafts, creative sing-along songs and recreational play.  Occasional educational visits form the Leawood Fire and Police Departments are also included.  One - 2 week camp, three sessions to choose from.  Camp meets at the Lions Shelter.

 

Creative Creations Camp

Age 8-11 years

Love to get creative?  This outdoor camp is for children entering the 3rd-6th grade who want to explore the world of art in a fun and exciting way.  Young artists work with paints, chalk, paper and clay (and that's just the beginning) and go on a field trip to an "artistic location" each session.  Daily swim instruction is also included with this camp.  One - 2 week camp, three sessions to choose from. Camp meets at the Leawood Aquatic Center Concession Deck.

 

Super Sports Camp

Ages 8-11 years

Can't get enough of sports?  This camp is for the sports fanatic.  Children in the 3rd-6th grade will spend two weeks participating in recreational sports and games.  Daily playing of different sports include basketball, volleyball, tennis, baseball, soccer and more!  Daily swim instruction is also included with this camp.  One Friday field trip will take campers to a sport themed venue.  Daily activities depend on camp enrollment.  One - 2 week camp, three sessions to choose from.  Camp meets at the Basketball Courts.

Outdoor Camp

Ages 9-12 years

Monday-Friday; 9:00am-4:00pm
Leawood Community Center (lower level of Leawood City Hall)

Leawood's full day Outdoor Camp is for kids aged 9-12 years.  This camp features a unique full-day adventure in an outdoor setting.  The campers will start off in Leawood City Hall, spend the day outdoors in Leawood's parks or other fun locations around town and return to City Hall for parent pick-up.  Campers will enjoy activities such as hiking, basketball, soccer, arts and crafts, daily trips to the pool for "free swim".  Weekly field trips will take campers to fun and exciting locations.  Possible trips include: Worlds of Fun, Oceans of Fun, Powerplay, Schlitterbahn, Sky Zone, Ironwoods Challenge Course.  Five - 7 hour sessions.

Half-Day Nature Camp

Ages 5-10 years

This camp is intended for younger elementary age children.  Campers will trek through the habitats and environments at Ironwoods Park including the creek, pond, prairie and woods.  Naturalists will see firsthand the animals, rocks, trees and bugs that live in eastern Kansas.

We will investigate weather, water, ecology and other aspects of our natural world.  Your child will truly benefit from this camp learning lessons in science, group interaction and nature exploration.  Five - 3 hour classes.
