"Schools Out" One Day Camp

Winter Blues Camp will be held at the Prairie Oak Nature Center
located in Ironwoods Park, 14701 Mission Road.

Winter Blues Camp - Ages 5-10 years

The winter seems the coldest and longest in February. This all day nature camp is a perfect way to spend the day. We will have games, crafts and activities to make the day fun. The focus of this camp will be remembering the summertime and sunshine.  Please pack a lunch and snacks for your child.

This spring break camp is designed to work with the Lego® Camp to offer a full day option for those working parents who may need it. We will help with the transition to and from those that are registered for Lego® Camp.  You may register for one or both sessions without having to be in Lego® Camp. Join the fun and enjoy an interactive environment with games, arts and crafts and much more. One - 4 hour session

All classes will be taught by Play-Well TEKnologies instructors and
will be held at the Leawood Community Center (lower level of Leawood City Hall)

Pre-Engineering: Mine, Craft, Build Using LEGO®

Bring Minecraft to life using tens of thousands of LEGO® Build engineer-designed projects such as a motorized Creeper, a portal to the Nether and a moving Minecart! Create your favorite Minecraft objects with the guidance of an experienced Play-Well instructor. Whether you are new to Minecraft and LEGO® or a seasoned veteran, you'll be hooked on the endless creative possibilities. Five - 3 hour classes.

Engineering FUNdamentals: Mine, Craft, Build Using LEGO®

Bring Minecraft to life using tens of thousands of LEGO®. Build a motorized walking Creeper, a terrifying Ghast and a motorized Minecart! This project-based camp, designed by Play-Well instructors, combines the basic format of our core engineering-themed programs based on the world of Minecraft. Students will explore real-world concepts in physics, engineering and architecture while building their favorite Minecraft objects. Students will have a blast, even without any prior experience with Minecraft or LEGO®. Five - 3 hour classes.

Jedi Engineerning Using LEGO® - Ages 5-7 years

Young Jedi will explore worlds far, far away and engineering principles right in front of them.  Defeat the Empire by designing and refining X-Wings, R2-units and settlements on far-flung edges of the galaxy.  Imagination and engineering combine to create motorized and architectural projects such as energy catapults, shield generators and defense turrets. Four - 3 hour classes.

Jedi Master Engineerning Using LEGO® - Ages 8-12 years

The Force is strong in this class.  Build complex machinges and structures based on the best designs from a galaxy far, far away.  Projects include X-Wings, AT-AT walkers, Pod Racers, Star Destroyers, Cloud Cities, settlements and fortresses.  Play-Well's Jedi instructors reinforce key engineering concepts such as gear trains, worm drives, pneumatics, eccentric motion and more as students tap into the powerful forces of imagination and engineering.  Four - 3 hour classes.

Balloon Tree Camp Ages 5-8 years

Perfect for children going in to Kindergarten - 2nd grade.  A daily regimen of swim lessons (taught by the Leawood Aquatic Center Staff) and activity stations including; cooperative games, arts and crafts, creative sing-along songs, nature exploration and recreational play.  Weekly educational visits from the Leawood Fire and Police Departments are included.  One - 2 week camp, three sessions to choose from.  Camp meets daily at the Lions Shelter.

Creative Creations Camp Ages 8-11 years

Love to get creative?  This outdoor camp is for children entering the 3rd - 6th grade who want to explore the world of art in a fun and exciting way.  Young artists work with paints, chalk, paper and clay (and that's just the beginning), and go on a field trip to an "artistic location" each session.  Daily swim instruction is included with this camp (taught by the Leawood Aquatic Center Staff). One - 2 week camp, three session to choose from.  Camp meets daily at the Leawood Aquatic Center Concession Deck.

Super Sports Camp Ages 8-11 years

Can't get enough of sports?  This camp is for the sports fanatic.  Children in the 3rd-6th grade will spend two weeks learning and participating in recrational sports and games.  Daily instruction and playing of different sports include basketball, volleyball, tennis, baseball, soccer and more!  Daily swim instruction is included with this camp (taught by the Leawood Aquatic Center Staff).  One Friday field trip will take camper to a local sporting venue.  One - 2 week camp, three sessions to choose from.  Camp meets daily at the basketball court located on the east side of Leawood City Park.

 

Outdoor Camp

This camp is for kids seeking a unique full-day adventure in an outdoor setting.  The campers will start off in the Maple Room of Leawood City Hall, spend the day outdoors in Leawood's parks and return to the Maple Room for parent pickup.  Campers will enjoy acitivites such as hiking, canoeing, basketball, soccer, arts and crafts and daily trips to the pool for "free swim".  Participants should bring a towel, sunscreen, water bottle and lunch each day.  One weekly field trip will take campers to fun and exciting locations.  Possible field trips include: Worlds of Fun, Oceans of Fun, Powerplay, Schlitterbahn, Skyzone, Adventure Zip KC and the Ironwoods Park Challenge Course.  Check back for the schedule of field trips.

 

 

Challenge Adventure Camp

Are your kids looking for some new challenges?  Then Ironwoods Challenge Course's Challenge Adventure Camp should be your choice this summer!

Experience the Carolina T-Wall, Alpine Tower, Giant Swim and for the 12-14 year olds, the world's only Caribbean Course.

We offer a balance of climbing activities (knots, belaying, commands and technique), teambuilding challenges, survival skills, some new fun games to play with friends, some brain teasers and above all, just plain fun!  For returning campers ages 12-14, more advanced climbing techniques will be introduced.

This camp is intended for younger elementary age children.  Campers will trek through the habitats and environments at Ironwoods Park including the creek, pond, prairie and woods.  Naturalists will see firsthand the animals, rocks, trees and bugs that live in eastern Kansas.

We will investigate weather, water, ecology and other aspects of our natural world.  YOur child will truly benefit from this camp learning lessons in science, group interaction and nature exploration.  Five - 3 hour classes.
