Police Citizen's Academy

The Leawood Citizen's Police Academy provides citizens the opportunity to experience first hand what it's like to be a Leawood Police Officer. For 10 weeks, participants will learn about the police department and, through a variety of practical exercises, be able to see for themselves what being a police officer is like. The Citizen's Police Academy also gives individuals the opportunity to develop relationships with police officers as well as foster a partnership with the Leawood Police Department. These relationships can lead to a better understanding of the police and how they serve the community.

Participants Learn About:

  • Citizen Complaints
  • Domestic Violence
  • Crimes in Progress
  • Police Canines

The 2012 session of the Citizen's Police Academy will be held Thursday evenings, 6 to 9 p.m., starting September 13th, 2012. Participants must be over the age of 18 and live or work in the City of Leawood. There is no commitment to attend every session of the Citizen's Academy. We realize that everyone has busy lives, but we think once you start you won't want to miss any of the weeks!
