Police Citizen's Youth Academy

Building on the success of their Citizen's Police Academy, officers in 2015 proposed hosting a separate academy program for teenagers. Six youths were chosen to participate in the first Leawood Youth Academy and it was such a success that the academy is now an annual community event.Youth Academy

The 2016 Youth Academy will be held Tuesday evenings from Jan. 19th to March 8th, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the Leawood Police Department.

Participants Learn About:



  • Crime Scene Investigation / Evidence Collection
  • Police K9 Unit
  • Patrol Procedures
  • Detective Unit
  • Defensive Tactics
  • Use of Force
  • Search & Seizure
  • Active Shooter

 

Participants must be 16-18 years of age, have an interest in law enforcement, be willing to participate in a community service project, be in good academic standing (minimum C average) in school and have parental permission.

There is no commitment to attend every session of the Youth Academy. We realize that everyone has busy lives, but we think once you start you won't want to miss any of the eight weeks! Please click here to fill out an on-line application.
