City Information

City Hall

  • City Hall is closed to public access and will operate with minimum staffing until April 6, 2020, at which time the situation will be reevaluated.

Dog and Cat Licenses

  • Late fees for pet licenses for the months of March and April will be waived provided that pets are licensed by April 30, 2020.  Questions regarding licensure should be directed to

Building Permits

  • Building Inspectors will be working.  Plans and permit applications will be accepted electronically by emailing  Any inspection called in by 4:00 PM will be completed within two business days.  Inspections will need to be done in isolation.  The inspector will call you on the day of the inspection to arrange.  Please contact Travis Torrez at 913 238 5321 or with questions.

Public Works

  • Right-of-way permits – Applications for right-of-way permits may only be submitted electronically. Please click on this link for access to the Permits:

Police Department

The safety and security of our residents remains a top priority and the police department will continue to operate patrols throughout the city.  For emergencies, call 911.  For matters which are not emergencies, please call 913 642-7700.

As we respond to take reports, you may be asked to meet the officer at the front door, in the garage or in another location with fresh air flow.

The Justice Center is closed to public access. Please contact us at 913-642-7700 if you need to make a report and an officer will call you back.

The police department has suspended the following services until further notice:

  • Fingerprinting of residents and those who work in Leawood is suspended.
  • Meetings in the Justice Center’s community room
  • Tours of the Justice Center
  • Issuance of solicitation permit
  • Child passenger seat safety checks

These Leawood Police events have been postponed and will be rescheduled:

  • The Citizen’s Police Academy scheduled to start on March 25th.
  • The Coffee with a Cop event scheduled for April 4th.
  • The Police Fishing Derby scheduled for April 25th has been canceled.

Fire Department

  • The Leawood Fire Department will continue to provide emergency incident response and vital public services.

In response to emergency declarations and best practices:

  • The department has suspended all public education and outreach activities until further notice. This includes station tours, crew social visits, and student ride-alongs. These activities will resume in line with other City of Leawood public outreach activities. Watch this website for updates.
  • If you feel you have been exposed to COVID19 or have non-life threatening signs and symptoms such as a low grade fever, a dry cough, or difficulty breathing, contact your healthcare provider for guidance. Of course, if you feel like you are haven a life threatening emergency, please call 911 immediately.

Parks & Recreation

  • All Parks & Recreation classes and activities have been cancelled until further notice.
  • The following facilities are closed to visitors:
    • Prairie Oak Nature Center
    • Historic Oxford Schoolhouse
  • The Lodge at Ironwoods tours have been suspended until further notice.
  • Cabin rentals at Ironwoods Park are suspended until further notice.
  • Spring soccer is cancelled.
  • Tennis, Pickleball, Volleyball, and Basketball courts are closed until further notice.
  • Ironhorse Golf Course closed for 30 days.
  • Leawood Dog Park is open.
