City Information

City Hall

  • City Hall is closed to public access and will operate with minimum staffing until further notice.

Dog and Cat Licenses

  • Late fees for pet licenses will be waived for the remainder of the calendar year 2020 provided that the pets are licensed by December 31, 2020.  Questions regarding licensure should be directed to dawnl@leawood.org.

Building Permits

  • Building Inspectors will be working.  Plans and permit applications will be accepted electronically by emailing travist@leawood.org.  Any inspection called in by 4:00 PM will be completed within two business days.  Inspections will need to be done in isolation.  The inspector will call you on the day of the inspection to arrange.  Please contact Travis Torrez at 913 238 5321 or travist@leawood.org with questions.

Public Works

  • Right-of-way permits – Applications for right-of-way permits may only be submitted electronically. Please click on this link for access to the Permits:  https://www.leawood.org/licenses-permits/right-of-way-construction-permits/
  • Right-of-way Inspections – The City will provide inspection for righ-of-way permits, but City staff will not meet directly with contractors. Reports will be completed electronically.  Please call 913-663-9130 for an inspection.  Inspections may take up to four (4) hours.

Municipal Court

  • All in-person Leawood Municipal Court dockets are suspended until further notice.
  • All pending matters will be continued and notices of new dates will be mailed to the address on file as soon as those dates are known.  Please visit this page often for updates.

  • You may contact the prosecutor by email to request an amendment on a traffic ticket at prosecutor@leawood.org
  • The Municipal Court Clerk windows are closed to public access.

Police Department

The safety and security of our residents remains a top priority and the police department will continue to operate patrols throughout the city.  For emergencies, call 911.  For matters which are not emergencies, please call 913 642-7700.

As we respond to take reports, you may be asked to meet the officer at the front door, in the garage or in another location with fresh air flow.

The Justice Center is closed to public access. Please contact us at 913-642-7700 if you need to make a report and an officer will call you back.

The police department has suspended the following services until further notice:

  • Fingerprinting of residents and those who work in Leawood is suspended.
  • Meetings in the Justice Center’s community room
  • Tours of the Justice Center
  • Child passenger seat safety checks

These Leawood Police events have been postponed and will be rescheduled:

  • The Citizen’s Police Academy scheduled to start on March 25th.
  • The Coffee with a Cop event scheduled for April 4th.
  • The Police Fishing Derby scheduled for April 25th has been canceled.

Fire Department

The Leawood Fire Department will continue to provide emergency incident response and vital public services.

In response to emergency declarations and best practices:

  • The department has suspended most public education and outreach activities until further notice. This includes station tours, crew social visits, and student ride-alongs. Some exceptions include car seat installations and birthday drive-by type events. Suspended activities will resume in line with other City of Leawood public   outreach activities. Watch this website for updates.
  • Child and infant car seat installations are available by appointment only. Please call Becky at 913-266-0600 to schedule an appointment.
  • If you would like a Leawood fire truck and crew to participate in a birthday drive-by event, please call Becky at 913-266-0600 to schedule.
  • If you feel you have been exposed to COVID19 or have non-life threatening signs and symptoms such as a low grade fever, a dry cough, or difficulty breathing, contact your healthcare provider for guidance. However, anytime you feel you have a life-threatening emergency, please always call 911 immediately.

Parks & Recreation

  • All Parks & Recreation classes and activities have been cancelled until further notice.
  • The following facilities are closed to visitors:
    • Prairie Oak Nature Center
    • Historic Oxford Schoolhouse
  • The Lodge at Ironwoods tours have been suspended until further notice.
  • Cabin rentals at Ironwoods Park are suspended until further notice.
  • Spring soccer is cancelled.
  • Tennis, Pickleball, Volleyball, and Basketball courts are closed until further notice.
  • Leawood Dog Park is open.
  • The following events have been cancelled:
    • Leawood Stage Company’s Production of “Civil War”
    • Presentation by Oxford School Docent – Re: Civil War
    • Tea with Shakespeare (DBE)
    • Eggstravaganza
    • Leawood Stage Company Board Meeting 3/21
    • Leawood Arts Council Meeting 3/23
    • Spring Soccer
  • The City parks restroom facilities and buildings are closed but the parks and trails remain open.
