Historic Oxford Schoolhouse Presents a Program on Mid-Century Style
The docents of the Historic Oxford Schoolhouse will host a fascinating program on Saturday, April 18th beginning at 10:00 am in the Lodge at Ironwoods Park, located at 147th & Mission Road, Leawood, Kansas 66224.
This program will be presented by KC Modern, a group dedicated to the preservation and awareness of Modern architecture and design.
Innovative designers reshaped our society in the post-war boom of the mid-century. Suburban areas, like Johnson County, feature architectural reminders of the progress and optimism of a new way of life in the face of space age technology. Hear the fascinating story about modern design in the Kansas City metropolitan area and how it influenced a lifestyle in Johnson County.
The Historic Oxford Schoolhouse and the Leawood Historic Commission present this program in coordination with the Leawood Stage Company's production of "Promises, Promises". This mid-century musical comedy by Neil Simon is based on the 1960 Oscar-winning film The Apartment, and features songs by the powerhouse composing team of Burt Bacharach and Hal David.
Attendees for the lecture will have a chance to win tickets for Promises, Promises.
If you are a fan of Mad Men and other shows that embrace the swinging energy of the mid-century, Promises, Promises is the show for you. Tickets are now on sale for $5.00 per person. Promises, Promises can be seen at Leawood City Hall in the Oak Room April 16, 17, 18, 8:00 pm nightly with two matinee performances on April 18 and 19 at 2:00 pm.
