LEAWOOD ARTS COUNCIL SERIES BEGINS WITH A CONCERT BY RANDY MCALLISTER
The Leawood Arts Council will again host a Concert Series each Sunday evening, August 16th through September 6th. The concerts will be held at the Ironwoods Amphitheater in Ironwoods Park at 14701 Mission Road. All concerts are free and will begin at 6:00 pm.
The series will kick off on August 16th with a concert by Grammy Nominee, Randy Mc Allister.
Back by popular demand, Randy McAllister is one of the premier singer songwriter, multi-instrumentalist to emerge from Texas. With amazing vocals, his music has been hailed as some of the most original and innovative being made today.
McAllister’s music has been described as falling between rock, blues and country with touches of sixties and seventies soul music and even perhaps a little JJ Cale. “Randy McAllister has found a place of his own in American music. This man is the master of Americana”.
“If Mark Twain had envisioned a 21st century roots musician, he might have created a character like Randy McAllister, with an easy-going persona and a wry wit”. McAllister’s songwriting weaves a variety of styles such a gospel, blues, country, Tex-Mex, rock and zydeco creating a sound that is uniquely his.
McAllister has released 10 critically praised albums, including Grammy Nominated “Givers and Takers”. His skillful songwriting approach is both truthful and funny performed with uncontrollable energy, expressed through his distinctive soulful voice. “His repertoire of all original material delivers a strong passion with an intensity of Wilson Picket or Otis Redding”.
If you missed the Randy McAllister concert last August you will not want to miss your chance to hear him this year on his trip through Kansas City. Bring your friends and entire family for a relaxing evening in the park. In the event of rain, the concert will move into the Lodge at Ironwoods Park.
The concert series continues on August 23th with Vine Street Seven, David Basse & Friends perform on August 30, and the series concludes on September 6th with Hard at Play.
Please join the Leawood Arts Council for our 10th annual free Sundays in the Park Concert Series in the Ironwoods Park Amphitheater. Some seating is available however, we recommend bringing a blanket and/or lawn chairs. Some refreshments will be available. Picnics are welcomed but alcohol is not allowed within the park.
