The Leawood Arts Council and Leawood Foundation to Host
“Arti Gras” Annual Juried Art Show
The Leawood Arts Council and Leawood Foundation are working together to host the fifth annual “Arti Gras” Juried Art Show February 26th through 28th, 2016. The show will be held in the Community Center on the lower level of Leawood City Hall.
The exhibition will highlight the best of local artist works selected by guest juror Suzann Geringer.
An Opening Night “Mardi Gras” themed reception will be held February 26, 2016 from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. This year the opening night reception will be open to the public featuring entertainment, music, food and refreshments for only $10.00. All artwork will be available for purchase during the reception and throughout the weekend.
A portion of the sale price of all art goes to the Leawood Foundation to fund 2016 projects including a new “all inclusive” playground for City Park. Planned improvements to the City Park Playground will include a new play surface to improve safety and inclusive playground structures that accommodate those with intellectual and physical disabilities.
The Foundation is a charitable fund of the Community Foundation of Johnson County, a regional affiliate of the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation, a 501(c)(3) public charity. The mission of the Leawood Foundation is to provide resources for activities and projects that might not be provided through tax dollars. The Leawood Foundation is committed to promoting cultural, educational and environmental activities and projects that enrich the lives of our residents and our community.
View over 100 exceptional works of art in various media and styles. Visit with over 80 selected artists, whom will be competing for top prizes as well as the “King’s Choice” Award. The top prize winners will be announced during the opening night reception. Attendees can purchase ballots to vote for their favorite works of art, to determine the King’s Choice winner. The King’s Choice award will be announced at the close of the show.
In addition to attending, you and/or your company can also become an “event sponsor”. Sponsor levels are reasonably priced and offer great advertising opportunities as a way to support your community. Sponsor levels include: Kings - $500 and above, Queens - $250 to $500, Jesters - $125 to $250, and Krewe – Any amount. Sponsors will receive advertising with names/logos listed on signs at the event, event marketing and printed program by level.
The 2016 “Arti Gras” is sure to be the event of the season in Leawood. In the event of severe winter weather, the reception will be held the following evening. Please check the weather line for rescheduling at 913-982-2433.
The exhibition will be open for free viewing hours Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.
