Sundays in the Park Concert Series features Hard@Play - Aug. 14

Expires [Sunday, August 14, 2016]

The Leawood Arts Council will again host a Concert Series each Sunday evening, August 14th through September 11th. The concerts will be held at the Ironwoods Amphitheater in Ironwoods Park at 14701 Mission Road. All concerts are free and will begin at 6:00 pm.

The series will kick off on August 14th with a concert by local favorites Hard@Play. Back by popular demand, Hard@Play will take us back to cool days in the 70s when Chicago, Blood Sweat & Tears, Santana and Steely Dan dominated the airwaves.

Hard@Play’s jazz influenced classic rock features a strong horn section. The ten member group includes vocalists Kent and Jeff Swearingen and Troy Burns who is also the keyboardist, drummer Tim Higgins, percussionist Warren Ludwig, guitarist Jeff Stocks, and bassist Rick Huyett. The horn section rounds out the sound with Scott Streker on trumpet, Ken Westphal on trombone and Jack Bates on Sax.

Hard@Play’s jazz influenced music runs from the late 60s through the 70s to more current tunes. This evening of “feel good music” is sure to be popular for those of us with fond memories of days past.

For the first time, the concert series experience will be enhanced by the presence of local favorite food trucks. This concert will feature Bochi, Cheesy Pops, El Tendor KC, and Ohana’s Shaved Ice.

Bring your friends and entire family for a relaxing evening in the park. In the event of rain or severe heat, the concert will move into the Lodge at Ironwoods Park.

The concert series continues on August 22st with Connie Hawkins and the Blueswreckers, David Basse & Friends on August 28th, Heat Index on September 4th, and the series concludes on September 11th with Grand Marquis.

Please join the Leawood Arts Council for our 12th annual free Sundays in the Park Concert Series in the Ironwoods Park Amphitheater. Some seating is available however, we recommend bringing a blanket and/or lawn chairs. Picnics are welcomed but alcohol is not allowed within the park.
