Historic Oxford Schoolhouse Hosts “Leawood Memories”

The docents of the Historic Oxford Schoolhouse and the Leawood Historic
Commission will host a history presentation on Sunday, November 6th
beginning at 2:00 pm in the historic one-room schoolhouse in Ironwoods Park,
located at 147th & Mission Road, Leawood, Kansas 66224.

Join us to learn about the history of the area that is now called Leawood,
from the days of early settlement through incorporation to the development
of the beautiful city we know today.

Not only can attendees join in the discussion by sharing memories, they are
encouraged to bring show and tell items and photographs from Leawood’s past.
Sharing photos is the perfect way to share a memory and spark the memories
of others. We hope that participants will bring not only things from
Leawood but also from the entire region.

Do you remember the days of the Leawood Country Club, the airport, or the
Drive-in? Did you shop at Ranchmart when it first opened? Did you ride at
Saddle and Sirloin or along the horse trails along Tomahawk Creek?

If anyone has a photograph of the caboose that sat in Leawood City Park in
the early 70’s please bring it or contact April.

Don’t miss this opportunity to learn, share and reminisce about the “good
old days”. For more information on this free event, contact April Bishop at
the City of Leawood, 913-663-9157, or Email aprilb@leawood.org.
