Spring Break Lego® Camps

All classes will be taught by Play-Well TEKnologies instructors and
will be held at the Leawood Community Center (lower level of Leawood City Hall)

 

Intro to STEM with LEGO®

Ages 5-7 years

Tap into your imagination with tens of thousands of LEGO®.  Build engineer-designed projects such as Boats, Snowmobiles, Catapults and Merry-Go-Rounds.  Then use special pieces to create your own unique design!  New and returning students can explore the endless creative possibilities of the LEGO® building system with the guidance of an experienced Play-Well instructor.  There is no prerequisite for this course.  Five - 3 hour classes

Monday - Friday, March 12-16, 9:00am-12:00pm

STEM Challenge with LEGO®

Ages 7-12 years

Power on your engineering skills with Play-Well TEKnologies and tens of thousands of LEGO®!  Apply real world concepts in physics, engineering and architecture through engineer-designed projects such as Catapults, Pneumatic Cranes, Arch Bridges and Battle tracks!  Design and build as never before, and explore your craziest ideas in a supportive environment.  An experienced instructor will challenge new and returning students to engineer at the next level.  There is no prerequisite for this course.  Five - 3 hour classes

Half Day Summer Camps

Three great camps and three sessions to choose from! All camps meet at Leawood City Park, 8:30am-12:00pm. Fee: $165 / Leawood Resident Discounted Fee: $135

June 4-15, June 18-29, July 9-20

Balloon Tree Camp

Ages 5-8 years

This camp is for children going in to Kindergarten - 2nd grade and involves a daily regimen of swim lessons (taught by the Leawood Aquatic Center Staff) and activity stations including cooperative games, arts and crafts, creative sing alongs and recreational play.  Occasional educational visits from the Leawood Fire and Police Departments are included.  Camp meets at the Lion's shelter.

 

Creative Creations Camp

Ages 8-11 years

Love to get creative?  This outdoor camp is for children entering the 3rd-6th grade who want to explore the world of art in a fun and exciting way.  young artists work with the paints, chalk, paper and clay (and that's just the beginning), and go on a field trip to an "artistic location" each session.  Daily swim instruction is included with this camp.  Camp meets on the concession deck of the Leawood Aquatic Center.

 

Super Sports Camp

Ages 8-11 years

Can't get enough of sports?  This camp is for the sports fanatic.  Children in the 3rd-6th grade will be participating in recreational sports and games.  Daily playing of different sports include basketball, volleyball, tennis, baseball soccer and more!  Daily swim instruction is included with this camp.  One Friday field trip will take campers to a sport themed venue.  Daily activities depend on camp enrollment.  Camp meets at the basketball courts located on the east side of Leawood City Park.

Outdoor Camp

Monday-Friday, 9:00am-4:00pm

Ages 9-12 years

Leawood features a unique full-day adventure in an  outdoor setting for kids ages 9-12 years.  Campers will begin their day at Leawood City Hall, spend the day outdoors in Leawood's parks or other fun locations around town and return to City Hall for parent pickup.

Campers will enjoy activities such as hiking, basketball, soccer, arts and crafts and daily trips to the pool for "free swim".  Weekly field trips will take campers to fun and exciting locations.  Possible trips include: Worlds of Fun, Oceans of Fun, Powerplay, Schlitterbahn, Skyzone, Ironwoods Challenge Course.

Half Day Nature Camp

Ages 5-10 years

Perfect for elementary age campers!  Join us in a week filled with hiking, fishing, exploring, stories, songs, games and crafts.  Camp is full of fun learning opportunities as we explore the meadows, woods, creek and pond.

Learn about the flora and fauna in our Midwest environment, and explore the many ways we can have a positive impact on the sustainability of our local, regional and world resources.

Campers will learn about the importance the bring to the world as individuals, how grops interaction and cooperation can create dynamic changes for the future.

Challenge Adventure Camp

Are your kids looking for new challenges?  Then Ironwoods Challenge Course's Challenge Adventure Camp should be your choice this summer!

Experience the Carolina T-Wall, Alpine Tower, Giant Swing and for the 12-14 year olds, the world's only Caribbean Course!

We offer a balance of climbing activities (knots, belaying, commands and technique), teambuilding challenges, survival skills, new, fun games to play with friends, brain teasers and above all, just plain fun!  For returning campers ages 12-14, more advanced climbing techniques will be introduced.

Challenger Soccer Camp

Monday-Friday, July 16-20

Challenger Sports' British Soccer Camp is the most popular soccer camp in the country based upon one of the most innovative approaches to coaching youth soccer in the US and Canada.  Experienced international staff study the game at all levels and will help players improve their core techniques and become more confident on the ball. With programs for each age, the curriculum includes a variety of foot skills, technical drills, tactical practices, freestyle soccer, small-sided games and coached scrimmages.  World Cup style games are held each day where campers compete for their adopted country and are encouraged to learn about different customs and cultures, and our core values of respect, responsibility, integrity, sportsmanship and leadership.  Most camps will include a free soccer ball, t-shirt, poster and certificate.

New for 2018 - participants will be provided free access to the iChallenge App and a collection of skill-building videos!

Campers need to bring a water bottle, shin guards and a full day campers bring sack lunch to camp each day.  It is also recommended that campers wear sunscreen to camp.  The full day camp will include a supervised lunch.

Ninjaneering LEGO®

Ages 5-7 years

Master the world of Najago by becoming a Ninjaneer!  Learn the way of Spinjitzu, build the Fire Temple, race Skull Trucks and encounter the mighty Dragon!  Imagine and build unique and fun LEGO® projects with the guidance of an experienced Play-Well instructor while exploring the fanstasy world of Ninjago, an ideal way to prepare young Ninjaneers for the challenge of Nijaneering Masters.

Ninjaneering Masters LEGO®

Ages 8-12 years

Master the world of Ninjago by becoming a Ninjaneer!  Tame the Ice Dragon, motorize your Blade Cycle, design the Dark Fortress and hone your Spinjitzu battle skills!  In this advanced LEGO® camp, Ninjaneering masters will learn real world concepts in physics, engineering and architecture while exploring the fantasy world of Ninjago.

Robotics with LEGO® WeDo

Ages 7-9 years

Build and program robots in this introductory Robotics class using LEGO® WeDo System.  Learn basic programming skills, simple engineering concepts and the names of robot components.  Work in small groups to complete several projects using tilt and motion sensors.  A great way to prepare young Robotics enthusiasts for the more advanced Robotics programs.

Robotics using LEGO® EV3

Ages 9-14 years

Build and program robots using the new LEGO® Mindstorms EV3 system!  Learn about mechanical and software design, loops, conditional statements, problem solving and teamwork skills.  Work in small groups, program and build your robot and rise to the challenge.  Control the robot to avoid obstacles, pick up and carry objects and play sounds.  Projects are structured sor that students work in an open-ended, investigative environment while having fun.
