The City of Leawood has established policies and procedures for maintaining and improving public property within dedicated stormwater easements in and along stream channels in the city. These policies and procedures are important because proper maintenance and improvement of drains, pipes and channels helps reduce pollution and prevent flooding.

Leawood residents and businesses are encouraged to check the status of stream improvements on their property to determine whether the city or the property owner is responsible for maintenance. Because unobstructed stream flow is important to preventing flooding, the City may require property owners to perform any necessary cleanup or pay the City to contract out the work.

The City does assist residents with channel cleanup. Refer to the City's Creek Cleanup Policy 15-515 of City Code for more information. See paragraph 6 under private responsibilities of 15-515 of City Code.
